Six More Weeks of Winter!!!
I'm afraid the groundhog saw it's shadow on Saturday and retreated back in it's burrow!! According to folklore, that means we have six more weeks of winter. Good thing we live in Georgia where it won't be so bad!
My first graders are working on many things this month. We are studying plants and animals in science. The students dissected a plant and looked at it's parts. Next, we will plant lima beans and monitor and record our observations. After our study of plants is over, we will begin learning about animals. In social studies we are continuing historical figures and their contributions to our great Nation!! We are learning to measure objects with nonstandard units in math. The students have measured different objects around the school and in the classroom with their hands and feet, as well as, with cubes, paper clips, hearts, and crayons.
Contine reading nightly with your child and working on math facts. Our words for this week are
Spelling- ice, nice, rice, race, face, space, like, nine, why, most
Vocabulary-almost, always, does, even, once, pretty, say, sound
